DIVERSITY RECRUITMENT PARTNERS in Education Magazine, formerly TEACHERS OF COLOR Magazine has thousands of hard copy and digital magazine readers. Here's what some had to say...

A STRONG TEACHER PORTFOLIO: Reading Teachers of Color’s article on teacher portfolios made me completely rethink and revise my portfolio. Prior to reading “Creating a Strong Teacher Portfolio” [Fall 2012], I included many unnecessary documents. I took the author’s advice to select artifacts that best highlighted my teaching philosophy, and in so doing, I was offered the job that I wanted. Now that I am teaching, Teachers of Color magazine is still an excellent resource for practical information and discussion on issues that impact practicing educators.  (FALL-2013 ISSUE)

BE YOURSELF: “Be yourself.  The energy, passion, and beliefs that you bring into the classroom will define you as a leader. One of the most important goals that we attempt to reach as educators is to create a classroom culture that educates the whole child; therefore, if we limit the “education” to consist entirely of textbook learning, we limit our ability to develop our students into truly well-rounded people.”   (FALL 2013 ISSUE)

- DERRICK GREEN, World History Teacher, Noble Network of Charter Schools

DIFFERENT CULTURES, COMMON GROUND: As a part of our Classroom Rules and Procedures Series, we talk about the importance of establishing relationships with students from the beginning of the school year. In particular, we believe relationship building is one of the best ways to lay the groundwork for maintaining a calm classroom. The article, “Different Cultures, Common Ground” [Fall 2010] does a really great job of giving teachers practical ways to get to know their students and to build community in the classroom. - ELIZABETH THOMAS, Turnaround for Children

TEACHER SALARIES BY STATE: While we realize Teachers of Color magazine is a recruitment resource guide for prospective teachers, we find your articles informative and enlightening.  You provide tips for new and existing teachers, but also articles such as the “Teacher Salaries by State” and the “Top 10 States With a Gazillion Teaching Jobs” [Spring 2013] which helped us as a school division stay competitive.  (FALL 2013 ISSUE)

I just had the pleasure of finding your Fall 2010 issue in the lounge of the Early Childhood, Elementary and Literacy Education department at Montclair State University in New Jersey.  I am an adjunct professor who teaches beginning teachers classroom management skills as well as how to seek employment opportunities.  I will be sharing some of the wonderful information that was contained in this issue with my graduate students .

- Dr. Marilyn Shapiro, Montclair State University

I found the Journal  Teachers of Color by accident. It jumped out at me from a magazine rack in the Social Sciences department at Queensborough Community College where I work.  I applaud your message that highly qualified teachers of color are still needed. People of color and I dare be blunt and say particularly Blacks are grossly under-represented even in their own communities…. Anyway, I enjoyed reading Teachers of Color and if you ever need some of the lived experience in the hallways of an urban community college. Let me know. Have a wonderful day and keep up the good work.

- Dr. Cheryl Spencer, Queensborough Community College

“This magazine has some outstanding articles about motivating minority students and teaching in a diverse environment.  Enjoy! “

- Nikki Dennis, Albuquerque, New Mexico

“Our ad looks stellar!! We will distribute the magazine to our Board members and Chiefs accordingly. This is a powerful issue which speaks out about the power of leadership through President Barack Obama’s success and also, on a more personal note, it beautifully showcases our District’s Full-Page ad, highlighting our need to recruit highly qualified and culturally diverse teachers in our designated shortage areas. “

- Jennifer A. Tirré, Rochester City School District

“Every one here has fallen in love with the cover of the magazine so much ,  I was asked if you can send me an electronic version of it.  They want to use your cover at a state wide meeting of school districts.

- Eddie Thomas, South Central Wisconsin School District

“What an amazing layout! I will certainly direct my database to your website. You offer a great service, and I am honored to have been selected to write for the magazine. I look forward to working with you again.

- Darrell “Coach D” Andrews, Education Consultant/Author

I was fortunate to examine the Fall 2010 issue of your magazine.  It was at this time that I recognized just how valuable this multifaceted magazine can be for all concerned with education.  I shared the one copy of the magazine which I borrowed with a few of my students;  Immediately, they wanted to know how to acquire a personal copy.  You will be pleased to know that each student with whom I shared the magazine was eager to have a turn taking the magazine home overnight for a closer reading.  I am comfortable to assert that the magazine offers valuable and timely information on an array of timely topics.  Moreover, the content is a rich supplement relative to topics studied from required course textbooks and periodicals.  The magazine brings many critical issues to life in an easy-to-read and inviting format. The mere title of your publication Teachers of Color reminds me of the pervasive need to expand this population of educators in the U.S.  There is a dire need to increase the number of males in this population.  Clearly, your magazine is fulfilling an important role as a key informational resource for all who are interested in teaching and learning outcomes for k-12 students (pre- and in-service teachers and the general population at-large.)  I genuinely believe that this resource can also serve as an excellent recruitment tool because it offers a realistic yet inviting portrayal of varying facets of teaching…
