Valid New York State School Library Media Specialist Certification 2. Masters in Library Studies (MLS preferred) 3. Successful Fingerprint Clearance 4. Successful completion of NYS Educating All Students (EAS) Exam 5. I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with Immigrations Reform and Control Act 6. Completion of mandatory training sessions KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: 1. Formal training in the management of a school library media center 2. Successful experience as a classroom teacher or Library Media Specialist 3. Trained in curriculum development, collaborative planning and instructional design 4. Management skills applicable to people, program, collection, budget and time 5. Knowledgeable about resources within and outside the library 6. Good organizational and goal setting skills 7. Proficient with using technology ACCOUNTABILITY: The Library Media Specialist reports directly to the Building Principal, Director of Special Education, or in accordance with currently established district and collective bargaining procedures and evaluation criteria. NATURE OF THE POSITION: While performing the duties of this job, the Library Media Specialist manages and administers all aspects of a school library media program and facility. The Library Media Specialist also collaborates with teachers to incorporate informational skills and technological resources into the curriculum. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties: ● Selects, evaluates, acquires, organizes and maintains library materials ● Provides staff support in the use of information resources and in the selection and application of informational and instructional technologies ● Works in cooperation with the teachers to design activities, materials, and instruction which promote curriculum integration ● Integrates curriculum needs into the library media program ● Teaches students to locate, select, analyze, evaluate, interpret and communicate information and ideas ● Trains and supervises all Library Media Center staff and volunteers in the performance of their duties ● Assists in planning staff development ● Assists the Director of Technology, Data Security and Communications in the evaluation of proposed software purchases ● Participates in the support of technology projects ● Assists with all other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or other district administrator
