    SALARY: $29.840/hr.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • PA Act 120 Municipal Police Certification.
    • At least 6 month prior Law Enforcement experience.
    • Ability to maintain accurate records.
    • Must be able to meet the Pa Municipal Police standards for First Aid, CPR and Firearms qualifications
    • Must hold current PA Drivers License and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
    • Must be available for off hour call outs, sporting events, evenings and weekends
    • No convictions that would exclude the carrying or possession of a firearm.
    • Experience in patrol, criminal investigations, and drug operations in law enforcement.
    • Ability to obtain NCIC certification.
    REPORTS TO: Supervisor of School and Community Safety
    JOB GOALS:
    • Enforce security procedures and regulations for the Erie School District's facilities, students and personnel.
    • Enforce the PA Crimes and Vehicle Code
    • Enforce the Ordinances of the City of Erie
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Build positive working relationships with building principals, staff, students, and parents to develop a positive law enforcement/education relationship.
    • Provide a positive and visible law enforcement presence in the school and school district property to provide for the safety and well-being of students, staff, and school visitors.
    • In the event of an emergency situation in school district buildings, on school district property, and on school buses, initiate emergency response.
    • With the authorization of the building principal, enforce PA Crimes Code by making arrests or issuing citations for violations to the Code on school property.
    • Provide other related duties as authorized by 24 PA P.S. section 778, School Code Regulation as related to School Police Officers.
    • Participate in mandatory training including but not limited to: Act 139 of 2014, NASRO training, de-escalation training, child and adolescent development, with an emphasis on the impact of trauma on student behavior, implicit bias.
    • In conjunction with local law enforcement, conduct investigations of criminal activities on school
    • property and reported cases of student, staff and parent misconduct that compromise the health, safety and security of the school operations, while ensuring that evidence is collected and preserved.
    • Provide security for school activity coverage with district administrators to provide security for various events as directed (dances, sporting events, theatre, etc.)
    • Serve as a member of the building Student Assistance Program (SAP).
    • Develop a working relationship with community agencies that offer assistance to youth and their family in the areas of mental health and substance abuse.
    • Work in conjunction with the building principal, Supervisor of School and Community Safety or designee and community emergency management agencies to develop plans and strategies to prevent or minimize dangerous situations near and on school property, in school buildings, or involving students at school related activities.
    • Instruct programs designed to educate students, staff, parents and community members in the rule of law, crime prevention, drug/alcohol awareness and prevention, and community safety programs in collaboration with the building principal and Supervisor of School and Community Safety or designee.
    • Perform routine walk-through and visual surveillance footage inspections of district property, including but not limited to inspection of doors, landings, parking lots and drop-off zones to prevent disruptive or criminal actions, or unauthorized access and responds according to district procedures and makes recommendations to the building principal and the Supervisor of School and Community Safety or designee for improvement on safety measures.
    • Encourage adherence to Erie's Public Schools District safety standards and enforces safety rules.
    • Act as a liaison between the school district, Erie Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and other emergency services on school matters.
    • Cooperate with law enforcement officials in all student matters under their investigation within related district policies with authorization of the building principal and Supervisor of School and Community Safety or designee.
    • Monitor traffic and parking on and around district property, opening entrances/gates and directing traffic as needed to ensure efficient traffic patterns.
    • Prepare necessary investigative reports, and logs for the Supervisor of School and Community Safety or administration.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of School and Community Safety or administration.
