Burlington School District is seeking individuals with Principal Licenses who are prepared to step in and serve as a substitute for our instructional leaders, learners, and managers of the school environment guided by the District mission, vision and strategic goals. They must possess the ability to enhance student performance, especially in identifying strategies that close the opportunity and achievement gap while raising the bar for student achievement. Our leaders promote a collaborative, positive and professional climate for students, staff and community to succeed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Provide a safe, orderly climate for learning.
  2. Meet with the school executive administration daily with updates on the day-to-day operations of the school.
  3. Encourages an inclusive school culture and promotes shared knowledge and shared responsibility for outcomes.
  4. Assist in establishing and maintaining a positive school climate that promotes learning.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of conflict resolution and problem solving strategies.
  6. Foster and model good interpersonal relations among students and staff.
  7. Support teachers in creating classroom environments conducive to learning.
  8. Exercise decisive leadership, including in the midst of crisis situations.
  9. Exhibit an understanding of human development and learning and demonstrate understanding of how these factors relate to instruction and curriculum.
  10. Monitor curriculum and instruction to ensure that the appropriate content and sequence are followed.
  11. Apply principles of teaching and learning for both children and adults.
  12. Help teachers understand and apply teaching strategies that align with the varied learning needs of students and that reflect principles of differentiated instruction.
  13. Inspire teachers at all levels of skill and experience to acquire new competencies and experiences.
  14. Identify and employ appropriate support services.
  15. Encourage and develop the leadership of others.
  16. Ensure that a Comprehensive Educational Support System, including an Educational Support Team (EST) is available to support students who require special or additional assistance.
  17. Work with Districts Executive Director of Student Support Services to ensure that state and federal special education procedures are followed and that a continuum of appropriate remedial and special education programs in the least restrictive environment are available to meet individual student needs.
  18. Work with Districts Executive Director of Student Support Services to ensure appropriate training and support for classroom teachers to implement accommodations, alternatives, and specialized instruction outlined in Educational Support Team plans, Section 504 plans, and Individual Education Plans.
  19. Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
  20. Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

        Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship

 

Education

  1. Master’s degree in educational administration or related areas. 
  2. Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
  3. Endorsement as a Principal (91) or eligible for Vermont Provisional endorsement.

 

Experience

 

Minimum Required:

  1. Previous experience as a School Teacher. 
  2. Knowledge and/or experience with school-wide student management best practices.
  3. Experience effectively working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups.

Preferred:

  1. Previous experience as a Building Administrator.
  2. Training and/or experience with group facilitation and process management.
  3. Experience and knowledge of Restorative Practices.

List Specific Skills And/Or Abilities Required:

    1. Ability to lead, counsel, and supervise a variety of personnel and programs.
    2. Strong decision-making, analytical and organizational skills.
    3. Ability and interest in direct and effective communications.
    4. Ability to improve instruction and increase student learning.
    5. Ability to define problems and formulate alternatives and arrive at solutions when information and/or objectives are ambiguous.

EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:

  • SALARY: This is a Per Diem position paid $350.00 per day. Pay periods are Bi-Weekly.
  • WORK DAY: 8 per day/40 per week
  • BENEFITS: Not Benefits-eligible
